2020 Summer Mission Project

Every summer Lakeside chooses a mission project to support. This summer we chose the Thursdays in Black campaign. Thursdays in Black grew out of the World Council of Churches' Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women in the 80's and 90's. Stories of gender injustice, abuse, violence, and many tragedies became more visible. However, women's resistance and resilience also became more visible. Often black has been used with negative connotations, but in this campaign, black is used as a color of resistance and resilience.

Although our camp programs are cancelled this summer, we still want to support Thursdays in Black, and we encourage you to get involved too. Here's how:

  • Show your respect for women who are resilient in the face of injustice and violence.

  • Wear black every Thursday this summer (or beyond!).

  • Sign the pledge (below) to commit to the project.

    • Take a picture or video of yourself (wearing black) reading and/or signing the pledge.

    • Post it on Facebook or Instagram.

    • Tag Lutheran Lakeside Camp!

      • We'll send a free Thursdays in Black shirt to the first 25 people who complete the challenge!

  • Encourage others to join you!

Together we can work towards a world without violence.
